About Nina Vasquez

About

People can tell when you’d rather keep their trust than close their deal.

— Nina, in her own words

Sales manager with 10 years selling food and supplies to restaurants and hotels. I grew my territory from $2.1M to $6.4M by doing the opposite of what people expect from a salesperson: telling clients the truth, even when it costs me the deal. The clients stay — 94% renew every year — and the referrals they send are where the growth really comes from.

How she works

  • Tells clients the truth even when it kills the deal — it comes back as referrals
  • Walks the client’s kitchen before she ever quotes a price
  • Never wins on discounts — wins on being the person who answers at 6 a.m.
  • Trains new reps on real sales calls, not scripts

How to read this portrait

This isn’t a stock image — it was painted from Nina’s own answers. Every color is a different part of who she is. Open one to read it in her words.

She was asked

A time she showed up for someone when she didn’t have to

One of my smaller accounts — a family restaurant — flooded two days before Mother’s Day weekend, their biggest weekend of the year. I spent the whole morning calling every account I have within forty miles until I’d found them fryer oil, produce, and a loaner freezer. I didn’t make a dollar on any of it and I didn’t think twice. They’d bet their savings on that place. You don’t let somebody’s whole year die over a burst pipe if you can fix it with a phone.

She was asked

What she’ll always make time for, no matter how busy life gets

The drive home, every day, I call my mom. Twenty minutes, hands-free, whether I closed the biggest deal of the quarter or lost one. She’s heard about every client I’ve ever had — she still asks about ones from years ago by name. However the day went, that call puts it back in proportion: it’s dinner, not life and death, and there are people who’d take my call at my worst too.

She was asked

Something she loves that most people wouldn’t guess

I keep bees — four hives behind my garage. Everyone laughs, because I talk for a living and bees are the one audience you cannot pitch. You can’t rush them, can’t spin them, can’t close them. You just show up calm, do the same small things right, in the right order, every time — and they give you more honey than you can eat. Honestly, it’s the best sales training I’ve ever had.
