Portfolio analytics
A portfolio with analytics.
Send a PDF and it vanishes into a void — you never know if anyone opened it. A portfolio with analytics tells you what's actually working.
The average recruiter spends 7.4 seconds scanning a résumé (Ladders). If they pass, you hear nothing. If they pause and look closer, you still hear nothing. Either way, the silence is the same. A portfolio with analytics breaks that silence.
Your Skillfolio shows you honest signal: how many people viewed your profile, how long they genuinely engaged, how many ran a job-fit check, and how many started a conversation with your AI. It is the difference between hoping your outreach landed and knowing it did.
Why analytics on a portfolio matter
Most job seekers operate blind. You polish a résumé, email it out, and wait. Only about 3% of applicants get an interview (CareerPlug), and roughly 88% of résumés are filtered out by applicant tracking systems before a human ever reads them (Harvard/Accenture). When you do not hear back, you have no way to distinguish between "nobody looked" and "someone looked but wasn't convinced."
Analytics change the feedback loop. When you share a portfolio link instead of a static file, you can see whether anyone opened it, whether they spent real time there, and whether they engaged with your AI. That turns a guess into data, and data lets you adjust: different outreach timing, a revised summary, a new template. Each cycle makes the next one more effective.
This is not about surveillance. It is about closing a feedback gap that has existed for as long as résumés have — and doing it honestly.
What Skillfolio tracks
- Views — how many people opened your profile, deduplicated so the same person refreshing the page does not inflate the count, with a trend line over time.
- Engagement time — how long visitors actually spent on your profile, measured with visibility-gated beacons so background tabs do not count. The dashboard reports the median, not the mean, because one visitor who left a tab open overnight should not distort the picture.
- AI chat sessions — how many visitors started a conversation with your AI chatbot. A chat session means someone typed a question and got an answer — not just loaded the page.
- Fit-analysis runs — how many visitors pasted a job description and asked the AI to score your fit. You see the job title, the score, and the label, but never the raw job description, to respect the visitor's privacy.
How engagement time actually works
Most analytics platforms measure "time on page" by looking at when a page loads and when the next page loads. If the visitor never clicks another page — which is common on a portfolio — the time is recorded as zero. That is not honest.
Skillfolio measures engagement differently. A heartbeat fires roughly every 15 seconds, but only while the browser tab is in the foreground (using the document.visibilityState API). If the visitor switches to another tab, the clock stops. Gaps longer than 60 seconds are capped so a forgotten tab does not inflate the reading. The dashboard shows the median across all visits, which means a single outlier does not skew the number.
The result is a number you can trust: if your median engagement time is two minutes, that means a typical visitor genuinely spent two minutes reading, exploring, or talking to your AI.
What Skillfolio does not track
Honest analytics means being upfront about limitations. There are things Skillfolio deliberately does not show because the data cannot be collected reliably.
- No referrer sources. Browser
document.referrerdata alone cannot reliably tell you whether a click came from LinkedIn, email, or a text message. Many browsers strip or anonymize referrers. We chose not to show a number we cannot stand behind. - No individual visitor identity. You see totals and trends, not names or email addresses. The analytics tell you what is working — not who to follow up with uninvited.
- No individual visit details below 20 sessions. With a small sample, individual data points are noisy and misleading. The dashboard shows aggregate totals until your profile crosses the 20-session threshold.
If a metric cannot be measured honestly, it does not belong on your dashboard. That is the principle.
Analytics at a glance
| Metric | What it measures | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Views | Profile opens | Deduplicated by visitor hash within 30 min; bots filtered by user agent |
| Engagement time | Active reading time | Visibility-gated heartbeat every ~15s; gaps >60s capped; reported as median |
| Chat sessions | AI conversations started | Counted on first message per session, not page load |
| Fit runs | Job-fit checks completed | Recorded server-side; you see title + score, never the raw job description |
| Referrer source | — | Not tracked. Browser referrer data is too unreliable to report honestly |
| Visitor identity | — | Not tracked. Totals and trends only — no names or emails |
The feedback loop in practice
Imagine you send your Skillfolio link to ten hiring managers on Monday morning. By Tuesday you can see that seven opened it, three spent more than a minute reading, and one ran a fit check. Now you know something concrete: your outreach is getting attention, but only about a third are engaging deeply. Maybe the summary needs sharpening. Maybe the template could better match the industry. You can adjust and try again — a cycle that is impossible with a static PDF.
This loop is especially useful early in a job search when you are still figuring out positioning. Instead of waiting weeks for silence to confirm that something is not working, you get signal within hours.
What a Skillfolio includes
Analytics are part of the full Skillfolio package at $29.99 per month. You also get:
- An AI-rebuilt résumé — upload your existing one and the AI rewrites it with better structure and language.
- Six portfolio templates — choose a design that fits your industry and personality.
- An AI chatbot — employers can ask it questions about your experience and get answers drawn from what you wrote, with citations.
- Fit analysis — visitors paste a job description and get an honest assessment of how well you match.
- A shareable link — one URL that works everywhere: email signatures, LinkedIn messages, cover letters, business cards.
Setup takes minutes: upload your résumé, answer three short interview questions, pick a template, and publish. You can try the demo with three sample personas to see everything — including the analytics dashboard — before you sign up.
Three demo personas, full analytics dashboard. No account needed.
Common questions
What analytics does Skillfolio show?
Profile views with trend over time, median engagement time measured via visibility-gated beacons, AI chat sessions started, and fit-analysis runs. These are the signals that tell you whether your outreach is landing — not vanity counts.
Can I see exactly who viewed my profile?
Skillfolio focuses on honest, privacy-respecting signal — engagement totals and trends rather than identifying individual visitors. It tells you what is working, not who to surveil.
Why does engagement time matter more than views?
A view can be an accidental click. Time spent shows someone actually read your work, explored your AI chatbot, or ran a fit check — that kind of attention predicts a reply.
How is engagement time measured?
Skillfolio sends a visibility-gated heartbeat roughly every 15 seconds, but only while the browser tab is actually in the foreground. Gaps longer than 60 seconds are capped so a forgotten tab does not inflate your numbers. The dashboard reports the median, not the mean, to prevent outliers from skewing the picture.
Does Skillfolio track where visitors come from?
No. Browser referrer data alone cannot reliably tell you whether a click came from LinkedIn, email, or a text message — the signal is too noisy to report honestly. We chose not to show a number we cannot stand behind.
When do individual visit details appear?
Individual visit data only becomes visible after your profile has received at least 20 sessions. Below that threshold the sample is too small to be meaningful, so the dashboard shows aggregate totals instead.
What does a fit-analysis run tell me?
When a visitor pastes a job description, the AI compares it against your profile and returns a fit score and summary. You see the job title, the score, and the label — but never the raw job description itself, to respect the visitor's privacy.
How much does a portfolio with analytics cost?
Skillfolio is $29.99 per month and includes full analytics, an AI chatbot, fit analysis, six portfolio templates, and an AI-rebuilt résumé. You can start free — no card required — and try the demo to see the analytics dashboard before committing.
