Résumé + AI chatbot

A résumé with an AI chatbot.

A PDF can't answer a question. A résumé with an AI chatbot can — turning a one-way document into a conversation where employers get real answers from your real experience.

Recruiters spend an average of 7.4 seconds scanning a résumé (Ladders, 2018). In that window, a static document has to do all the talking. On Skillfolio, your résumé comes with an AI chatbot an employer can ask directly: "What's their experience with team leadership?" "Have they shipped anything at scale?" "How would they approach our problem?" The chatbot answers from your résumé and the Q&A you write yourself, cites where the answer came from, and stays within the truth of what you've said.

The résumé stops being a wall of bullets and starts being someone they can question.

The problem with one-way résumés

The traditional résumé is a broadcast. You send it, hope someone reads it, and never know what question they had that would have changed their mind. The numbers tell the story: only about 3% of applications lead to an interview (CareerPlug, 2024). Meanwhile, 88% of résumés are rejected before a human sees them (Harvard Business School & Accenture, 2021) — filtered by software that reads keywords, not context.

Even the résumés that get through face a problem no format can solve: a document can't respond. If a hiring manager wonders "have they done this specific thing?", the answer might be buried on page two, or it might not be on the résumé at all — even though you could answer it easily in conversation. That gap between what you know and what the page shows is where candidates get passed over.

A résumé with an AI chatbot closes that gap. Instead of hoping the right bullet catches their eye, you give them a way to ask.

How the chatbot works

The Skillfolio chatbot is not a general-purpose AI that knows everything about everything. It is a grounded assistant that knows exactly one thing: you. Here is what happens under the hood:

What the chatbot can and can't do

Honesty matters more than impressiveness. Here is exactly where the chatbot helps and where it stops:

The chatbot can The chatbot can't
Answer questions about your skills, projects, and experience using your own words Invent skills or experience you didn't include
Cite the exact résumé bullet or Q&A entry behind every answer Make claims without a traceable source
Respond to open-ended questions like "tell me about their leadership style" Answer questions about topics you haven't covered
Adapt its tone and detail to match the question Override or contradict what you wrote
Handle dozens of conversations with different visitors at once Share information between separate conversations
Reflect changes to your profile immediately when you update your content Learn from visitor questions or update itself

The chatbot only knows what you tell it. That means the quality of its answers depends entirely on the depth of your résumé and Q&A. A sparse profile gets sparse answers. A detailed one gets useful, specific responses that make employers want to talk to you.

What you control

You are not handing your professional identity to an algorithm. You own the source material and can change it at any time:

Every change takes effect immediately. There's no retraining, no delay, no approval process.

How to set it up

Getting from a traditional résumé to a résumé with an AI chatbot takes about fifteen minutes:

  1. Upload your résumé — drop a PDF, DOCX, or image. The AI parses it into structured sections in real time.
  2. Answer three interview questions — short, character-focused prompts about your values and what drives you. Your answers enrich the chatbot's understanding and feed a generative portrait unique to your profile.
  3. Choose a template — pick from 6 professionally designed résumé layouts. The AI strengthens your bullet points and restructures content for clarity.
  4. Publish — your portfolio goes live with your chatbot active. Share one link that carries your résumé, your story, and a way for people to ask questions.

Beyond the chatbot: fit analysis and analytics

The chatbot is the headline, but a Skillfolio profile does more. Employers can run a fit analysis — paste a job description and get a structured comparison of how your experience matches the role, with cited evidence for each point. You see every interaction on your analytics dashboard: profile views, chat sessions, fit analyses run against you, and median engagement time. You know who's interested and how deeply they looked.

Common questions

What can employers ask the chatbot?

Anything about your experience — skills, project details, team leadership, tools, fit for a role. The chatbot answers from your résumé and your written Q&A, cites where the answer came from, and declines to go beyond what you've shared.

Does the AI make things up?

No. The chatbot is grounded in your content — your résumé and your own written answers — and cannot exceed it. Every claim it makes is tied to a specific part of your profile with a visible citation. If someone asks about something you haven't covered, it says so honestly rather than guessing.

Can I control what the AI says?

Completely. The AI draws from two sources you own: your résumé and your self-written Q&A in the My AI section of your dashboard. Add, edit, or remove answers at any time. The chatbot reflects your changes immediately.

What happens if someone asks something not on my résumé?

The chatbot will tell them it doesn't have information on that topic. It won't guess, speculate, or fill in gaps. This is by design — it protects you from being misrepresented. If you notice a gap you'd like to cover, add an answer in your My AI section and the chatbot will start using it right away.

Do I still have a normal résumé?

Yes. Skillfolio exports a clean PDF alongside your AI-enabled link, so you're covered for traditional applications too. You choose from 6 professionally designed templates and the AI helps strengthen your bullet points before export.

How is this different from ChatGPT writing my résumé?

ChatGPT generates text from general knowledge and can invent qualifications. The Skillfolio chatbot does the opposite — it speaks only from your verified content, with citations. It's not writing for you; it's representing you accurately to anyone who asks.

Can anyone use the chatbot, or just employers?

Anyone you share your link with can use the chatbot. Recruiters, hiring managers, collaborators, clients — whoever you want to give a deeper look at your experience. You can also password-protect access or turn the chatbot off entirely from your dashboard.

What does it cost?

Skillfolio is free to start — no card needed. The full plan with the AI chatbot, résumé builder, fit analysis, and analytics is $29.99 per month.
